Project Value: £1.3M
WJL were appointed by Kier to deliver bespoke joinery and acoustic panelling doors, an elliptical ceiling, a feature wall, mirrors and kitchenettes at Crawley Town Hall in West Sussex – finishing the work on the 14th October 2022.
Our scope of work included bespoke joinery in the reception area and lift lobby area, acoustic panelling for a feature wall on level 1 as well as an elliptical ceiling – these included oak veneer panelling and oak slat panelling.
The ground floor feature wall was a fin wall using black fabric wrapped panels. It was painted on one side and veneers were used on the other. WJL were given the design responsibility for this and certain other aspects throughout the project.
There were various challenges during this project, including 2700 large 2.7m doors that were difficult to manoeuvre into the building when the external access equipment was removed by building contractors.
Structural openings for doors were made with the wrong size which led to the principal contractor having to redo them. There were also delivery challenges due to tight loading bays and restricted loading bays, but the teams managed to get everything under control and finished on time.
Our teams delivered an outstanding standard of work at Crawley Town Hall – there were a lot of elements which were all quite intricate and needed key skills to execute.
