Project Value: £230k
WJL were appointed by Laing O’Rourke to deliver our bespoke joinery services and first fix installation of door sets at the new MA5 Data Centre located in Manchester.
Once completed, the MA5 Data Centre will provide high-speed connectivity to the North of England, facilitating the next generation of digital transformation within the region. This is Equinix’s fifth data centre which will bring with it even more career opportunities for the tech industry, as well as support the city’s digital infrastructure.
Our scope of work included the installation of the door sets, as well as the installation of Corian light boxes. This was a nice variation and something a bit different for our team, with high spec ornate glass and cables throughout.
We also made temporary hacks for the building, designing and installing them within 3 days. This allows the equipment to be tested to make sure it doesn’t overheat. The testing element was essential to ensure the safe completion of the building. We designed and built 8 enclosures that were approx 8m by 4m and made of timber framing. These were then taken down after just 3 weeks – a very quick turnaround but an essential element to the safe handover of this project.
Our workshop team delivered an outstanding standard of work on this project, with about a 50/50 split between workshop manufacturing and installation. The workshop elements included purpose-made items for the job like the wall panelling.
