Project Description

WJL were appointed by Laing O’Rourke to deliver our doorsets, screens, and run material services for Orchard Hill school in West Drayton. The project was started in early 2022 and finished mid April 2022.

Orchard Hill, incorporated with the PRIDE academy provides a specialist learning environment that is inspiring, educational, creative and individualised for students over the age of 16 with a range of special needs. Their programmes are designed to support and empower each student to achieve their aspirations and goals, whilst developing skills to become more independent members of their community.

When installing the doorsets, WJL had to ensure a suiting schedule was followed to ensure that they were properly integrated, this ensures that only certain teachers/members of staff can access certain doors with varying master keys that ensure restricted access. This is important for the overall safeguarding of the schools and safety of the students and staff.

Our team also installed internal windows, and run material i.e. skirtings and architraves. A challenge we faced was the inclusion of a 3mm undercut gap between the door and the floor on the fire and smoke doors doors. We resolved this with the use of norseal drop seals which drop down automatically when the door closes.

The site was very clean and tidy and a great opportunity to work on, Laing O’Rourke are always a pleasure to work for and ensure great operating conditions.
